How to choose a good laptop stand?

By using a laptop stand in combination with a separate keyboard and mouse, you create an ergonomically responsible workplace; in the office, at home and on the go! Within our assortment you will find various laptop stands. For a mobile workplace we have foldable laptop stands, for permanent places we have heavier stands, for example to attach to an arm or combined with a document holder.

Ergonomic tips for using the laptop

  • Always place your laptop right in front of you.
  • The top edge of your laptop screen should be at eye level. This allows you to look at the upper right corner of the screen with your neck slightly bent (5-10 degrees). Looking up and too far down puts too much strain on the neck and shoulder muscles, which can cause symptoms.
  • To avoid too much background light, the laptop screen should be placed perpendicular to the window. Provide good, indirect, lighting that avoids reflection on the screen.
  • Always use a separate compact keyboard and vertical mouse that allows you to work within your body width (comfort zone).

Occupational health and safety laws on laptop use

In accordance with the occupational health and safety standards in the Netherlands an employee may not work on a laptop for more than 2 hours a day if no additional accessories such as a laptop stand, keyboard and mouse are used. Another requirement is that the monitor must be height adjustable and tiltable. When these conditions are met, it is permitted and ergonomically justified to work a maximum of 6 hours per day on the laptop.

Frequently asked questions about laptop stand

Do you work at a laptop for hours every day? It is almost inevitable in this day and age that you spend a lot of time behind the laptop. Then a laptop stand is a logical choice. Choosing a laptop stand is not easy. The range with all the differences is huge, we understand that it is difficult to make a good choice from the large selection. The best laptop stand adapts to your work, work environment and possible complaint. How can you choose the ideal laptop stand from our wide range? With the following questions, we think you can better determine for yourself what the best laptop stand is.

What is the correct screen height of a laptop?

To give accurate advice on this, we must first look at the inch size of your laptop screen. A smaller laptop (10 inches) or a larger screen (17 inches) makes quite a difference. In both cases, the screen is significantly smaller than that of a standard monitor (22 inches or larger), so keeping an arm's length distance is not enough.
A better rule of thumb is to keep about 40 cm distance between body and screen. Then, if the text is not easily readable for you, we recommend adjusting the text size through the monitor settings. A good viewing distance reduces fatigue and is less stressful for the eyes.
In terms of height, a good rule of thumb is to put the top edge of the screen at eye level, keeping the head upright and neck muscles relaxed. If all goes well, you are now looking at the center of the screen while the eyes are not opened too far. This benefits the drainage of eye fluid and invites more frequent blinking. During screen work, try to look into the distance regularly (every 10 minutes), so that the eyes have to exert themselves again. A good tip is to blink deliberately after every complete line of text so that the eyes are not open for too long.

What are the benefits of a laptop stand?

A laptop gives us the mobility and convenience to work wherever we want. However, this mobility has its limitations in comfort and ergonomics. With intensive use, a laptop stand is going to help improve posture and reduce the risk of shoulder and neck pain. Its use ensures that the laptop's screen is elevated, thus preventing bending of the neck. This significantly reduces tension in the neck and shoulder muscles, reducing or preventing physical complaints. Moreover, good working posture reduces fatigue and thus increases productivity.
